Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
-
2 oz strawberry purée
-
2 oz orange juice (preferably fresh squeezed)
-
3 oz champagne or sparkling wine, well chilled
-
¼ oz grenadine
-
Garnish: strawberry slice, orange wheel, or mint sprig
Optional additions for variations include mango juice, pineapple juice, frozen strawberries, or flavored sparkling wine like rosé.
Instructions
Chill your champagne flute or preferred serving glass. This keeps your drink colder longer and enhances the sparkle. You can chill glasses in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill them with ice water while you prep the ingredients. Step 2: Add the strawberry purée
Pour 2 oz of strawberry purée into the bottom of your glass. You can use store-bought purée or blend fresh strawberries with a splash of lemon juice and sugar. The natural sweetness and texture from strawberries create a rich base. Step 3: Add the orange juice
Slowly pour in 2 oz of orange juice, ideally over the back of a spoon to minimize blending with the purée. This helps maintain the layered look. The acidity and brightness of orange juice balance the sweetness of the strawberry. Step 4: Add the champagne
Top the glass with 3 oz of chilled champagne or sparkling wine, pouring slowly to avoid foam. The bubbles will rise through the layers, lifting the aroma and adding crispness to each sip. Step 5: Drizzle the grenadine
Gently drizzle ¼ oz of grenadine down the inside wall of the glass or use a dropper. Because it’s denser than juice or wine, it will sink to the bottom, creating the iconic sunrise effect. Step 6: Garnish and serve
Finish with a garnish—a slice of strawberry, a wheel of orange, or a small mint sprig. Serve immediately while the bubbles are fresh.
Notes
-
Strawberry Purée Tip: To make it at home, blend fresh strawberries with a teaspoon of sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice. Strain for smoothness if desired.
-
Juice matters: Fresh-squeezed orange juice is key—it’s brighter, less sweet, and more vibrant than bottled.
-
Chill everything: Make sure the champagne, juice, and even your purée are well chilled for the best texture and appearance.
-
Pour slowly: For the layered effect, add liquids gently and use the back of a spoon for more control.
