Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone or American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Optional: extra cheese, sautéed mushrooms

Instructions

Preparation

Step 1: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2: Add chopped onions and bell pepper. Cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.

Step 3: Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.

Step 4: Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 4–5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

Step 5: Place slices of cheese over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet for 1–2 minutes until cheese is melted, then stir to combine.

Step 6: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns. Top with extra cheese or sautéed mushrooms if desired.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce grease.
  • Don’t overcook the vegetables—they should stay slightly crisp.
  • Provolone gives a more authentic Philly taste, but American melts smoother
