Instructions
Step 1: Season the chicken
Lightly season 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts with ¼ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon garlic powder. This ensures the meat is flavorful even before the gravy comes in.
Step 2: Arrange in crockpot
Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the bottom of your crockpot in a single layer.
Step 3: Combine the liquids
In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 packets of chicken gravy mix, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 can of chicken broth, and 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard (if using). The Dijon adds a subtle tang that deepens the flavor.
Step 4: Pour over chicken
Pour the gravy mixture over the chicken in the crockpot, making sure the meat is well coated.
Step 5: Cook low and slow
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and shreds easily with a fork. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to maintain heat and moisture.
Step 6: Shred and stir
Once cooked, shred the chicken directly in the crockpot using two forks. Stir well to fully incorporate the shredded meat with the gravy. Let sit for 5–10 minutes on warm to thicken further.
